The MCC-Maple Woods baseball program continued to dominate winning the region XVI tournament in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2013, and 2016. In 2006, the Sports Training Center was opened, providing a temperature-controlled, 10,000 sq. ft., state-of-art field turf facility. In 2007, Brian Bechtel was named athletic director, and the mascot name was changed from the Centaurs to the Monarchs, partly to recognize the legacy of the Kansas City Negro League team of the same name. That year, Logan Morrison and Jake Blackwood were drafted and signed with the Florida Marlins.
Clark had a long and successful career in the major leagues, including a strong stint with the Cardinals from 1985–87. Since retiring, he's made news several times with his bold opinions. Clark has said Mark McGwire should be banned from baseball for using steroids and has accused Tony La Russa of turning a blind eye to steroid use when he managed McGwire in Oakland and St. Louis. In 2010, when the team struggled late in the season and missed the playoffs, Clark went on the radio and called the Cardinals "quitters." He even said, quite oddly, that the players had "poopy in their pants." So yeah, his credibility is perhaps questionable.
Pujols released a statement Friday afternoon through his agent at MVP Sports Group, which read in part: "My lawyers have told me that the upcoming legal fight will not be an easy one, and that in cases like this even a liar can sometimes be protected under the law. But as a man of faith, I have never shied away from standing up for the truth, and I believe that the principles at stake are too important to sit back and do nothing. I believe we are all accountable for the things we do and say, and it was important for me to stand up for what was right against those who would seek to drag me down to try and build themselves up. I have always believed in the principles of honesty and accountability, and will continue to fight for them here."
